WHERE DID IT COME FROM?
The brand came about from sketch's original walls from over 300 sites globally that he has taken and twisted into graphic to become a brand.
The desire to create the brand came about from a quest for the latest trends but with the right fit that suits the demands of Hip Hop culture with the length and looseness and topical content that express the relevant views of people that live and are proud of the progressive nature of the 4 elements within Hip Hop.
The other part of this desire is to relate the personal slant of Sketch's experience within his involvement of the culture, to light in ways that others can express and create poignant statements that show views of different Hip Hop ideals.
A lot of brands are bought forwards in Sketch's eyes from people's interest within the culture but never put across in a way which seems that the designs are not created from someone involved in or miss the translation of what the culture is conveying in those statements.
WHY 86 LICKS?
Apart from the obvious nature that Sketch 86, as graffiti artists do want to continue their alias. The influence comes from an early 90's hip hop record hook that says "its the licks baby its the licks". This is a song that stuck with Sketch throughout his career and combined that with his reputation to bring you something that means the business. The licks.
